Facilitator Testimonial

SGC’s Pathways Program offers a truly holistic experience—one that honors my unique perspectives, such as my personal recognition of body, mind, and spirit as sacred and inseparable, within a broader and more inclusive framework of shared least dogma. Through my involvement in Pathways, I have discovered a religious / spiritual community that genuinely prioritizes safety and care, fostering respect and trust in ways that go beyond programming. It is a sacred practice that nurtures growth in Divine Presence, both within and in community.

An Important Acknowledgement

We want to take a moment to speak clearly and compassionately about the 30% revenue share that SGC asks of facilitators. We know this can be a meaningful consideration for those discerning whether to serve through SGC, and we want to offer full transparency about why this structure exists and how it supports the whole community.

1. SGC is not yet self-sustaining.

Right now, Sacred Garden Community generates about half of our annual operating budget through member and facilitator-generated income. The other half comes from a single major donor. If that support were to stop, SGC would not be able to continue in its current form. Our goal is to build a financially stable foundation that allows SGC — and everyone who serves within it — to thrive independently in the long term.

2. The 30% share is not a tithe — it helps cover real overhead costs.

The 30% is not meant as a spiritual tithe but as remuneration for the extensive infrastructure that enables our ceremonies, provides accountability, and keeps both practitioners and facilitators safe under the church’s legal and ethical umbrella.

That share helps fund the many systems and forms of labor that make facilitation through SGC possible, including:

  1. Member onboarding and Practitioner eligibility management

  2. Health & Safety Questionnaire (HSQ) system and review labor

  3. Feedback collection and response systems

  4. Community Safety Team engagement and response when needed

  5. SPA (Sacred Plant Alliance) program fees and participation costs

  6. Liturgy review, approval, and oversight

  7. Ceremony registration systems, payment processing, and follow-on management

  8. Marketing, communications, and community engagement

  9. Corporate governance and the “corporate veil” of legal protection

  10. Recurring legal and compliance work

  11. Insurance coverage and related risk management

  12. Technology platforms (Kajabi, Jotform, QuickBooks, etc.) that support registration, accounting, and communications

When we account for all of these ongoing costs, it’s not entirely clear that SGC currently earns a true “profit” from its share of ceremony revenue. The revenue share allows the organization to continue providing these supports so that ceremonies can be held safely, legally, and in alignment with our shared values.

3. The amount is consistent with nonprofit best practices.

Overhead costs in the nonprofit sector commonly range between 25–40% of total expenses. SGC’s 30% share aligns with that standard while remaining mission-focused on accessibility, safety, and sustainability.

4. Our long-term vision is fairness and mutual thriving.

If and when SGC becomes self-sustaining, we will gladly revisit the current revenue structure. Our intention has always been to create a model where facilitators can make a viable livelihood while contributing to a healthy, transparent, and well-supported community.

We deeply appreciate your openness and willingness to engage this conversation with care. The 30% share is one way we tend the roots of our shared practice — ensuring the systems, protections, and relationships that allow the Garden to bloom are maintained for all who come after.
